FOOTBALL - Clark at the double as Malvern Town return to winning ways against Falmouth Town

MALVERN Town ended a run of three successive draws with a 3-1 home victory against Falmouth Town.

A brace from Harry Clark twice put the Hillsiders ahead after Oscar Massey had drawn the visitors level early in the second period at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.

And Charlie Johnson sealed the points for Malvern as the Hillsiders brought an end to their three-game winless run.

The result means Malvern sit second in the Southern League Division One South table, eight points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.

Making the long trip from Cornwall, Falmouth went close when Luke Barner fired narrowly over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.

And the visitors hit the inside of the post soon after as Oscar Massey’s shot struck the woodwork and rebounded to safety.

Falmouth remained on top and spurned another chance when Jack Webber could only find the side netting after Dion Molyneux accidentally diverted the ball into the striker’s path.

Malvern made the visitors pay for those missed chances on 39 minutes as Clark adjusted his feet well to hook a shot into the net after Morgan Coxhead could only parry Joe Bullock’s header.

And the home side should have doubled their lead before the break when Johnson met Clark’s free-kick but could only send a header over the crossbar.

However, Falmouth equalised after the break on 51 minutes as Massey applied a simple finish to Barner’s square pass.

The Hillsiders responded almost immediately as Yuri Quintas could only shoot at the legs of Coxhead when through one-on-one before Johnson headed the resulting corner over.

Malvern reclaimed the lead five minutes later when Clark produced a composed finish under Coxhead from Tumelty’s through ball to mark his 250th appearance for the club with a brace.

And the home side secured the points on 70 minutes as Johnson headed in Tumelty’s corner to make up for his earlier misses.

Malvern are next in action against Bashley on Saturday, March 7 with kick-off at 3pm at the Veho Community Stadium.
