MALVERN Town recovered from an early deficit to claim a dominant 4-1 win against league leaders Winchester City.

The Hillsiders trailed to an early goal from Thomas Wright at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.

However, goals from Joe Tumelty, Sam Clark, Elliot Lewis and Alex Bell secured a comprehensive win for Lee Hooper’s side.

And the result means Malvern sit second in the Southern League Division One South table, level on points with leaders Bishops Cleeve who have two games in-hand.

Malvern made the worst possible start as Wright put Winchester ahead after just two minutes with a stunning effort from 35-yards out.

The home side responded well to the setback as Winchester goalkeeper Tommy Scott denied both Joe Bullock and Clark.

And Scott made an even better stop to keep out another Clark and keep Winchester in front.

Malvern eventually drew level on 32 minutes when Ryan Brunt chased down a lost cause and turned the ball across the face of goal to Tumelty who applied the finish on the turn under pressure.

And the Hillsiders completed the turnaround five minutes after the break as Clark rose highest to head home Tumelty’s corner.

Winchester threatened to equalise as Malvern stopper Seth Locke made a smart save low down to keep the home side ahead.

Hooper’s side extended their lead on 77 minutes when substitute Lewis scored his first goal for the club after another Tumelty corner caused chaos in the Winchester penalty area.

And the home side completed the scoring four minutes into injury time as Bell tapped home from close range after good work from Harry Clark down the right.

Malvern are next in action against Westbury United on Tuesday, October 14 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Meadow Lane.
