MALVERN Town continued their play-off charge with an emphatic 5-2 win against Bashley as the Hillsiders secured a sixth straight victory.

Goals from Joe Bullock and Jack Watts put the Hillsiders ahead before Lewis Spurrier netted a brace and Ryan Brunt completed the scoring in injury time at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.

And the result means Malvern sit sixth in the Southern League Division One South table, one point outside of the play-off places.

The home side went close early on as Levi Francis shot narrowly wide from the edge of the penalty area.

And Watts then saw his shot deflect off teammate Harry Clark and into the hands of Bashley goalkeeper William Seeley.

Malvern deservedly broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Bullock finished at the second attempt after Seeley kept out his initial effort from Clark’s flick-on.

However, Bashley drew level against the run of play on 27 minutes as Williams pounced on some confusion in the Malvern defence to lift a shot over Josh Bishop.

The Hillsiders reclaimed the lead four minutes later when Watts scored from the penalty spot after Francis drew a foul in the box.

And Malvern went close later in the half with Seeley only able to parry Matthew Macdonald’s effort which led to scramble in the box before Bashley eventually cleared their lines.

The home side extended their lead four minutes before half time as Clark won back possession with a slide tackle before playing in Spurrier who took the ball around the goalkeeper and finished coolly from a tight angle.

And Spurrier scored his second of the game on 67 minutes after firing a volley into the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Bashley netted a consolation goal in the final minute as Williams tapped in his second of the game from close range.

However, the Hillsiders responded straight from the restart when substitute Brunt guided Joe Tumelty’s cross-shot into the net.

Malvern are next in action against Falmouth Town on Tuesday, March 25 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Bickland Park.
