MALVERN Town’s planning application to build a new stand and upgrade their existing clubhouse has been recommended for approval.
Malvern Hills District Council Southern Area Planning Committee approved the club’s planning application subject to conditions.
The club can begin work on improving their current Langland Stadium home once an official decision is issued after February 6.
The new ‘Hills View’ stand will provide covered standing for more than 400 spectators against the backdrop of the Malvern Hills.
And the upgraded clubhouse terrace and canopy will create step-free access, a raised platform for wheelchair users and covered accommodation near key amenities.
The club, its shareholders, cornerstone sponsors and the Premier League Stadium Fund will fund the project.
Malvern Town chairman, Chris Pinder said: “We’re incredibly pleased. This unanimous decision reflects just how much support there is for what we’re building, not just a better football ground, but a lasting community asset.
“We’re grateful to the council, our supporters, and everyone who helped us get to this point. The Hills View Stand will become something truly special for Malvern.”
In recent years, Malvern have laid down a 3G pitch, built new changing room facilities and upgraded the car park.
The club will now start working with contractors and suppliers to begin construction as soon as feasibly possible.
Langland Stadium’s current capacity is 1,320 with 155 covered seats and also 126 covered standing places in a single stand.
This provides covered provision for 281 people in wet conditions.
The proposed new stand will provide a maximum capacity of 410 people, all standing and covered. This also increases the total covered provision to 691 spectators.
The application is recommended for approval, subject to the expiry of 21 days of the notice being served.
Any further views received between approval and the end of the 21 days will be taken into account.
