BARNARDS Green progressed to the quarter finals of the Worcestershire County Cup after a century from Phil Harris guided his side to victory over Halesowen.

Harris, who was making a rare appearance for Green, hit an impressive 124 in just under 19 overs as the host edged a closely fought encounter at North End Lane on Monday.

His ton included ten sixes and nine fours while captain Andy Ford made a rapid 21 to help his side secure a total of 170 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

It left Halesowen needing nine an over to chase Green’s score, but a quick-fire half century from overseas player Sparta Gabriel got his side back into contention.

Harris followed up his inspired batting display to clean bowl Gabriel before bagging another wicket soon after. Halesowen were now on the back foot as they lost Wes Griffiths and then Faisal Shadid who was stumped by Ash Brewer.

Patel and Shadid combined well to leave the visitors needing 14 off the final over, but skipper Ford took two wickets in as many balls as Halesowen went all out for the win.

Tom Wickstead gave his side hope as he hit his first ball for six, but Kester Moseley was caught behind off the final delivery to give Ford his fifth wicket as Green wrapped up the victory.

Ford’s side will now take on Birmingham Premier League outfit Himley CC for a place in the semi finals.
