Heavy defeat sees Kempsey drop to the bottom of the table

KEMPSEY dropped to the foot of the Worcestershire county League Division Two table following their crushing 299-run defeat to title-chasing Coombs Wood.

Wood opted to bat after winning the toss, setting a daunting target of 407-5 from their allotted 50 overs.

Gulham Abbas (130 off 108 balls) and Wasim Ashiq (131 not out off 87) were stars of the show for the visitors.

Stuart Baker (46) and extras (45) were the next top scorers.

Jamie Francis (3-103) was pick of the bowlers for Kempsey who were all out for 108 in their reply.

Alex Gregory (5-30) did the damage with the ball as only lance Ohren (25), Joshua Jones (27) and Joe Worthington (16) broke into double figures.

Kempsey make the trip to Enville on Saturday.
