Home comforts for Malvern with bonus point victory over Barkers Butts

Malvern Editorial 12th Mar, 2018   0

MALVERN gathered another Midlands Two West (South) bonus point win at Spring Lane on Saturday after brushing aside Barkers Butts 55-12.

The hosts started brightly as Luke Milton sped over for the opening score with Rob Cook forced to drop-kick the conversion due to the severe windy conditions.

After a quickly taken penalty, Tom Hale cut through for Malvern’s second try with Cook converting.

Hale was again on hand moments later to cross the line.

Cook successfully converted.

The bonus point was then secured when Malvern stole a Barkers line-out and moved the ball upfield to Jack Curtis who touched down.

The Coventry-based visitors remained on the back foot and went into the break 31-0 down when speed demon Liam Roleston powered through to score.

After the break Malvern continued to hound the Barkers’ back line and their pressure was rewarded when Hale went over for his hat-trick try.

Barkers decided to try and play keep ball but a penalty relived the pressure which allowed Hale to show a clean pair of heels and sprint through for another try.

Cook kicked the extras once more.

A defiant Barkers continued to press and eventually got a try of their own but Malvern responded quickly as Luke Milton ended a slick move with a try.

He then made another break to put Conor Giggle over with Ben King converting.

Barkers scored a consolation late on as Malvern edged closer to promotion.

Up next for Cook’s side is a trip to Solihull outfit Silhillians on Saturday.
