Hooper: Malvern Town fully prepared for FA Cup test

JOINT-BOSS Lee Hooper says Malvern Town are fully prepared for their FA Cup extra preliminary round tie at higher-ranked Boldmere St Michaels this weekend.

It’s a tricky first hurdle for the Hillsiders who travel to the Sutton Coldfield-based side tomorrow (Saturday).

Boldmere ply their trade in the Midland League Premier Division, one step above the West Midlands Premier which Malvern currently occupy.

However, Hooper says his players are up for the challenge and are high on confidence after opening their league account with a 3-0 victory over Pershore Town last Saturday.

“The FA Cup is such a special and iconic competition,” he said.

“It’s great to be involved and we’ll go to Boldmere and give it everything we’ve got.

“Our hosts play a level above us but we’ll be looking to feed off our performance against Pershore Town last weekend.

“As a club we’ve not done that well in the FA Cup over the years so I’d like to think we can progress in the competition this year and get a bit of a run going.

“It will be tough, of course, but we’ve had a good week in preparation for the game and the lads are really looking forward to it.

“There’s a lot of belief among the group and they are working their socks off for Dene [Whittal-Williams] and I.”

The winners will be handed a home tie in the preliminary round against either Racing Club Warwick or Coleshill Town.
