Ledbury duo look to build for the future

NEWLY-appointed joint managers Zac Blood and Pete Boyle have vowed to breathe new life into Ledbury Town as they aim to build for the future.

The 25-year-old, who has previously worked at Aston Villa’s academy, said he was delighted to join former Ledbury teammate Boyle, 28, in the hot seat at New Street.

The duo took over the reins left by Paul Mann, who stepped down as first team boss last month, and Blood told the Observer work was now underway ahead of their first West Midlands Regional Division One campaign in charge.

Despite having a combined age of 53, Blood believes they have what it takes to move the football club, who finished three points above the drop zone last season, on an upward curve.

“We are both very excited to take on the role,” Blood said. “A lot of work is going on behind the scenes as it is basically a rebuilding job and a fresh start for the club.

“We were originally going to apply separately but then we got talking and thought a joint bid would benefit us both and the club.

“Peter has been at the club since its Ledbury Swifts days. He has had a season here and there at other clubs but he has always come back, so it is very much his local team. It is important to have that passion, but it is also important to have someone from the outside with new ideas like myself. Hopefully we have got the right blend to move the club in the right direction.”

However, Blood said the board has put no pressure on them to succeed in their first campaign as he said the focus was on putting together a youthful squad for next season.

“It is very much a two or three year project here and that was what was discussed with the chairman right from the start,” Blood said.

“In terms of recruitment we don’t want 35 or 36-year-olds who are just going to come here for a season as we want young lads who we can build something with.

“Next season is just about getting a good group together, who will learn how to play the right way and then hopefully over the next two or three years we will be ready to push on and eventually try and win things.”
