Ledbury exit cup after extra-time defeat

LEDBURY Town Reserves squandered their final opportunity to acquire some silverware this season as they crashed out of the HFA Burghill Cup in dramatic style at Weston.

Karl  Lancett’s side found themselves 2-0 in front after just 25 minutes thanks to goals from Zeki Koral and Adam McTear, but the hosts battled back to win 4-2 after extra time.

Ledbury were missing several players, but they made a superb start to the cup clash as Koral found the back of the net after just ten minutes. McTear then coolly dispatched from the spot after the striker was brought down in the box by the Weston keeper.

Nicky Welch and Koral also went close as the visitors dominated the first half, but as time wore on Weston began to secure more of the ball. And, soon enough, the home side drew level following an impressive ten minute spell, with the second of the two goals coming after the ball rebounded off the crossbar following a fine save from keeper Carl Wildig.

Despite the double blow, Ledbury remained positive as the game went into extra-time. But crucially, they could not find the finishing touch, while Weston struck twice to seal a place in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Ledbury Town’s West Midlands Regional League Division One clash against Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at New Street.
