Malvern and Upton hoping to return to winning ways

Malvern Editorial 7th Feb, 2017   0

MALVERN Rugby Club will be looking to bounce back from successive Midlands Two West (South) defeats when they host Southam at Spring Lane on Saturday.

The club are hoping to kick on and climb into the top half of the table this year and started positively in 2017 with a narrow 16-15 win at Pinley, but since then have gone on to suffer a 27-12 defeat to leaders Rugby Lions and a thumping 48-13 defeat to second placed Silhillians.

With eight games remaining, Malvern sit seventh in the standings on 30 points, just three points behind their weekend opponents.

But the last time Malvern faced the Warwickshire side in October, they were on the wrong side of a resounding 41-18 scoreline.

Malvern’s clash with Southam kicks off at 2.15pm.

Meanwhile, Upton-upon-Severn will look to bring an end to their three-game losing streak in Midlands Three West (South) when they travel to fifth placed Old Coventrians.

The club have endured a difficult time since their promotion from Midlands Four West (South) and currently sit second from bottom with just three wins to their name.

Upton were narrowly beaten 20-10 on Friday by promotion hopefuls Evesham so there are some signs they can still push up the table as they sit just four points behind third from bottom Woodrush and have a game in hand.

Coventrians have won three of their last five outings and have lost just once at home all season.
