Malvern edging closer to promotion

Malvern Editorial 27th Feb, 2018   0

MALVERN moved a step closer towards promotion from Midlands Two West (South) with a comfortable 68-6 victory over bottom side Old Yardleians.

The Spring Lane side made an explosive start as Davis Smith ran in the first try which Ben King converted.

Yardleians got on the scoresheet moments later from a long-range penalty but Rob Cook’s Malvern were soon back on the attack and Smith crossed the line for his second of the game.

Once again a plucky Yardleians picked up another three points after a few basic errors made by Malvern.

However, the hosts dusted themselves down as Ieuan Mustow bagged a try and King kicked the extras.

The try bonus point was then secured when Mustown fed Luke Milton to cross the line.

King converted once again.

Jack Curtis was next to touch down, with King’s conversion taking the half-time score to 33-6.

After the break Malvern continued from where they left off as Curtis strolled through a gap for another converted try.

The forwards drove forward once again which allowed James Tutty to score and give King another two points to his tally.

King then got on the try-scorers list himself and converted his own effort to further extended Malvern’s impressive advantage.

Malvern continued to show no mercy as Curtis grabbed his hat-trick try before King closed proceedings with another converted try.

Up next for Malvern is a trip to Silhillians on Saturday.
