Malvern prove too slick for Casuals

MALVERN Town returned to free-scoring form as they put five goals past Wolverhampton Casuals at the HDanywhere Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

Dave Reynolds struck twice while Kirk Layton, Dan Herbert and Matthew Turner also scored as Malvern maintained their position in the top five of the West Midlands Regional League with a fine home win.

Town’s fans had to wait 88 minutes before Town finally found the breakthrough last Saturday, with a goal from Turner. But they did not have to wait too long this time around as the hosts opened the scoring on the sixth minute – and in some style.

After collecting Jake Hollylee’s pass, Layton let fly from 20 yards before seeing it go in off the post.

Layton had the chance to double his side’s advantage on the 25th minute, but this time his shot curled just wide.

Malvern were playing some attractive football and it was a neat move which led to their second goal just before the break. Turner and Aaron Richards combined well before the ball was crossed into the box for Herbert to head home.

Booth produced a fine save to stop Reynolds making it 3-0 with a 25 yard strike, but that did not affect the striker as his glancing header found the back of the net.

Turner and Richards were causing the visitors all sorts of problems and they almost carved out another after the interval. Their move led to a cross for

Reece King, but Booth pushed his effort over the bar. The Wolverhampton keeper was beaten moments later, but this time Dene Whittal-Williams’ shot was cleared off the line.

Town continued to press and scored a fourth on the 51st minute as Turner received Herbert’s flick on before lashing the ball home.

Reynolds was a constant threat in attack as he grazed the post before scoring at the death. The striker side-footed Bryan Craven’s cross into the net.
