Malvern Seconds and Thirds combine for friendly against Ledbury

WITH the first team out of action, Malvern’s second and third teams combined to take on local rivals Ledbury in a friendly.

Malvern started the scoring with the hard-working Bryon Eacock finishing off a passage of passing by the forwards to bounce off the final defender to touch down under the posts. Nial Farrant-Potter converted as the hosts took a 7-0 half-time lead.

Next up to score was man-of-the-match Liam Roleston, playing at prop forward in a game which saw him tested by big opposition.

But his power and pace proved too much as Ledbury missed the chance to stop him at least four times from 15 metres out before Roleston left defenders in his wake to add to the score.

However, the visitors responded with a good kick and chase into the Malvern 22 before arriving in numbers to gain possession and go over in the corner for a deserved try.

Roleston then scored again, this time bursting through from the Ledbury 22 with pace that could not be matched for a fine individual try.

Ledbury never threw the towel in and gained just rewards with the final action seeing them score a try that said much about their forward power, relentlessly pounding the Malvern defence they eventually scored under the posts for another try as the game finished 21-12 to Malvern.

Malvern’s director of rugby Rob Cook said: “It was really good to see all the players available get to play.

“We are trying hard to get back to a three-team club but that may not be possible some weeks.

“If it is not, it is important to try to give all players a run out.”
