THE GIRLS of Malvern St James are celebrating their recent success at a district under-11s tournament held at The Chase.
Ten teams from nine schools across the Malvern Hills district competed in the event for a place at the Worcestershire County Finals in January.
Malvern St James fielded two teams who were drawn into different groups.
After some great attacking and defending in their matches against Castlemorton, Eldersfield Lawn, Martley and Rushwick, the A team finished top of their group without conceding a goal.
The B team were also unbeaten and kept four clean sheets against Great Malvern, Hanley Swan, Malvern Wells and Upton-upon-Severn.
However, they narrowly missed out on winning the group but the girls were put into the third place play-off match as a consolation.
In the final, the A team took on Hanley Swan with Charlotte Brookes scoring the only goal in a nerve-wracking final to secure the district crown for MSJ and a place in next year’s county finals.
Lilia Mico also netted for the B team who finished third overall.
