MALVERN St James Girls’ School added further silverware to its growing trophy cabinet thanks to a scintillating display from its u16 hockey team.
As well as winning the Herefordshire & Worcestershire County Competition, the side also stole the show at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) U16 Girls’ 7-a-side Hockey Tournament.
The u16 team’s winning streak began with a clean sweep of victories at the ISA competition, which took place at St Edward’s School in Cheltenham as they were crowned champions.
The side then moved on to the Herefordshire & Worcestershire County U16 Hockey Tournament at Bromsgrove School. And with confidence sky high, Malvern St James Girls’ School swept all before them as they thrashed The Chase School 4-0 before beating Kings School Worcester 2-0.
After edging past Bromsgrove School in the last four, the team then faced local rivals Malvern College in a tantalising finale.
And after the scores were locked at 0-0, it was Malvern St James who held their nerve during the penalty shoot out as they secured the title. The win also landed them a spot in the Regional Hockey Finals, which take place next month.
Patricia Woodhouse, headteacher at Malvern St James Girls’ School, said: “Our talented hockey players are a force to be reckoned with.
“Each squad member has demonstrated that hard work, dedication, excellent skills and teamwork ensure unbeatable results.
“They are a real credit to the superb sports provision we offer here at Malvern St James, the county’s leading school for girls’ sport.”
