MALVERN TOWN boss Les Jones said it felt like his heart was coming out of his chest when he watched his side secure a dramatic 5-4 victory over Stone Old Alleynians at the weekend.
Despite going 2-0 up early doors, Malvern were pegged back to 2-2 before once again racing into a two-goal lead.
Alleynians were not to be defeated however as with 10 minutes remaining, they clawed their way back to 4-4, only to see Ben Hayes net an 87th minute goal to secure the win for the Hillsiders.
Speaking to the Observer, Jones said: “I could feel my heart pounding out my chest watching the game, it was a really bizarre match.”
“I would have been absolutely devastated if we had drawn 4-4 after dominating the game for so long.
“We controlled the game from start to finish and we created enough chances to win comfortably but from a defending as a team point of view, I just could not take it.
Victory for Malvern saw them climb up to sixth in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division table, just two points off the top five.
Malvern’s next game sees them entertain Dudley Sports at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium this Saturday and Jones hopes to see more of his side’s attacking flair before joking he would love to see another 5-4.
“To score five goals at this level of football is tremendous,” he added.
“It was important for us to get the win after two defeats so I’m glad to be back to winning ways.
“I am happy to see us scoring freely but it is also important to not let as many goals in.
“The long one hour and 40 minutes journey was worth it as we came away with the three points.”
