Malvern Town face 38-game league campaign

Malvern Editorial 30th Jun, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

MALVERN Town’s 2016/17 campaign will feature 38 games following the confirmation of the West Midlands (Regional) League constitution at last night’s AGM.

With last season’s Premier Division champions Shawbury United promoted to the Midland League Premier, Division One champions Shifnal Town fill in the gap.

Bromyard Town and Tipton Town have been relegated to Division One leaving a 20-strong Premier Division for the 2016/17 season, two less than last season.

There’s plenty of change in Division Two as Malvern Town Reserves will meet three new sides in Allscott AFC, Bewdley Town Reserves and West Bromwich United in a league which has been reduced from 15 teams to 11.

Division Two champions Newport Town and runners-up Old Wulfrunians have been promoted to Division One while Red Star Alma, Bilbrook, Powick Rangers, Tividale Reserves and Wrens Nest Reserves have all departed.

The season is set to begin on Saturday, August 6 but with the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup starting on the same day, Malvern will kick-off their season on Saturday, August 13 unless they receive a bye.

The Hillsiders will find out who they play in the Extra Preliminary Round on Friday, July 8.

The full Premier Division constitution is as follows: AFC Bridgnorth, Bewdley Town, Bilston Town Community, Black Country Rangers, Cradley Town, Dudley Sports, Dudley Town, Ellesmere Rangers, Gornal Athletic, Haughmond, Malvern Town, Pegasus Juniors, Shifnal Town, Smethwick Rangers, Stone Old Alleynians, Wolverhampton Casuals, Wolverhampton Sporting Community, Wellington Amateurs, Wellington, Willenhall Town.

The full Division Two constitution is as follows: Allscott AFC, Bewdley Town Reserves, Gornal Colts, Malvern Town Reserves, Sikh Hunters, Telford Juniors, Tipton Youth AFC, Wolverhampton United, Warstone Wanderers, West Bromwich United, Wonder Vaults FC.
