Malvern Town looking to stretch their 12-game unbeaten run

HELLENIC League leaders Malvern Town will look to stretch their 12-match unbeaten run with the visit of Chipping Sodbury Town to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.

The clash on Saturday (January 28) comes on the back of the Hillsiders defying not just fellow promotion chasers Cribbs but also the elements as thick fog descended during the second half.

Despite the inclement conditions, Town recorded a 2-1 home victory over their Bristol rivals to complete the league double and move five points clear at the top of the Premier Division table, albeit with Cribbs having three games in hand.

The Hillsiders have been unbeaten in the league since a 2-0 reverse to Wantage Town in late October but it was the visitors who started brightly and Cribbs’s Ryan Cainey hit the post after three minutes.

Town edged in front on nine minutes when Harry Clark was on hand to turn the ball home from in front of goal.

After a cagey opening to the second period, things burst into life when Aysa Corrick levelled matters on 55 minutes and then moments later Town stopper Kieron Blackburn produced an outstanding save to deny Ben Bament.

With the foggy conditions worsening, an orange ball was called for and as Clark looked to break into the area, he was brought down for a penalty which Joe Bates stepped up and tucked home to make it 2-1.
