MALVERN TOWN continued their impressive start to 2017 after they put seven past West Midland (Regional) Premier Division strugglers Wellington Amateurs.

Goals from Lewis Platt (2), Bryan Craven, Adam Sauntson, Phil Harris, Dave Reynolds and Matthew Turner made it a memorable afternoon for the Hillsiders.

And Les Jones’ side were dominant from the outset and almost scored in the opening minute when Phil Harris went down the right and crossed the ball into the box and Dave Reynolds sliding in just failed to make any connection.

Four minutes later Wellington Amateurs had a corner which was crossed into the box and a header was clearly on target but Charlie Weaver in the Malvern goal blocked the ball.

Malvern took the lead in the sixth minute. Harris ran down the right crossed to Lewis Platt who headed home, even though Lucas Franks, in the Wellington goal, got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

The Hillsiders made it two after 11 minutes when Reynolds pulled the ball back to Bryan Craven to fire home.

Wellington played their part in the proceedings and midway through the first half a free kick by Liam Armstrong went just over the bar.

But Malvern always looked likely to score and in the 40th minute Harris played the ball to Craven onto Reynolds whose curling shot was pushed over by Franks.

From the resulting corner, the ball skimmed the home side’s defence before reaching Sauntson at the back post to head home.

And three minutes later in was 4-0 when the ball was played in from the left and Harris shot the ball home.

Nine minutes into the start of the second period the ball was played up the right to Craven who crossed to Reynolds to fire home to make it 5-0.

Malvern then brought three substitutes on to give them a run for thirty minutes.

In the 69th minute Matthew Turner who ran and crossed the ball to Max Kontic-Coveney who very unselfishly laid the ball back to Turner to tap home.

Two minutes later a drop ball on the half way line was won by Platt who played it to Reynolds who ran into the box and played it to Turner who shot wide.

In the 87th minute the ball was played to Reynolds who tried to walk the ball in but it got blocked.

With the final kick of the game Platt fired home to get his second and Malvern’s seventh.
