Malvern Town's attitude and commitment pleases boss Jones

MANAGER Les Jones has called on Malvern Town to show the same attitude and commitment displayed in their 0-0 draw with Smethwick for the rest of the season.

After back-to-back West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division defeats, shipping 11 goals in the process, the Hillsiders stopped the rot in the Black Country on Saturday.

Smethwick had beat Malvern 4-1 in the FA Vase earlier in the season and Jones was proud of his players for rectifying the problems of the last couple of weeks.

Malvern now travel to Bewdley Town tonight (Tuesday) and face a trip to Shropshire side Shifnal Town on Saturday with Jones hoping his players can continue to push on.

“I was really impressed with the performance against Smethwick,” he said.

“It was a really tough match but I had to compliment the players for the determination they showed to keep a clean sheet.

“We were quite unlucky to not come away with a win as we had two chances cleared off the line in the last five minutes but I was happy with the point regardless.

“I want to see the same effort and attitude throughout the year so we can come away with more clean sheets.”

Kirk Layton (foot) and Lewis Platt (leg) could be doubtful for the trip to Bewdley while Bryan Craven, Phil Harris and Luke Molloy are expected to return.
