MALVERN Observer reporter Craig Gibbons looks back at Malvern Town’s key displays which secured them a third place finish in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

1) Bewdley 1-4 Malvern Town, 31/10/15

Following four wins in just their opening 15 league outings, the turning point for Malvern’s incredible season started here as goals from Bryan Craven, Jack Cullity, Ben Hayes and Matthew Turner secured the win for Les Jones’ side. This victory got the winning momentum for Malvern.

2) Stone Old Alleynians 4-5 Malvern Town, 05/03/16

An enthralling nine-goal thriller at Springbank Park saw Malvern claim three points in dramatic fashion. Despite being pegged back from 2-0 and 4-2 up, the Hillsiders secured victory when Ben Hayes snatched the winner in the 87th minute. A victory which boosted Malvern’s top five hopes.

3) Cradley Town 1-2 Malvern, 19/03/16

After a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Dudley Sports the week before, Malvern returned to winning ways after defeating fellow top five hopefuls Cradley thanks to goals from Bryan Craven and Ben Hayes. This victory was the start of the Hillsiders’ incredible ten-game winning run.

4) Malvern Town 4-2 AFC Bridgnorth, 26/03/16

Following a good 2-1 win at Cradley Town, Malvern welcomed title-chasing AFC Bridgnorth to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium. However, an impressive Malvern ran out comfortable winners with goals from Luke Corbett, Matthew Turner, Dene Whittal-Williams and Harry Wickett. A huge win over a top side was the confidence booster going into the remaining eight games of the season.

5) Wellington Amateurs 2-8 Malvern Town, 10/05/16

Malvern went into the final game of the season on the back of nine consecutive wins and they knew victory against lowly Wellington would secure a third place finish. A fantastic evening saw Malvern run out comprehensive winners with the help of a Luke Corbett hat-trick to secure their highest West Midlands (Regional) League finish since the Hillsiders won the league in 2004.
