MALVERN were involved in a 100-point thriller on Saturday as they thrashed Berkswell & Balsall 74-26 to keep up their Midlands Two West (South) promotion charge.

The Spring Lane side started rampantly with Grant Fraser opening the scoring and from the restart Luke Milton fed Tom Hale who went on an astounding 70m run to cross the line with Rob Cook converting.

A swift counter-attack led to the next try as Cook passed to Milton who touched down for a converted try.

The Warwickshire visitors responded with a converted try of their own but Malvern’s reply was instant as James Cook claimed the try bonus point with barely 25 minutes on the clock.

Malvern’s high intensity continued to pay dividends as Ben King was the next to score and give Cook the chance to kick the extras.

Fraser then ran in one more try as Malvern went into the break 32-7 ahead.

Immediately after the interval Malvern were scoring again as John Friths forced his way over the try line with Cook converting.

Next it was the turn of Fraser to take a pass and go in for his hat-trick try but the visitors hit back with a converted try.

However, Malvern were in no mood to let up as Conor Giggle worked his way on to the scoresheet.

With a 39-point cushion, the hosts then seemed to relax a little as the B&B scored two tries to win a losing bonus point.

With four minutes left on the clock, Malvern responded once more as Tom Hale raced in to score and give Cook the conversion.

Giggle then put in another fine run before Hale went over again to complete the rout.

Second placed Malvern head to leaders Droitwich on Saturday.
