EVIE RICHARDS claimed a battling second place in the first cross country UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in the Czech Republic.

The Malvern Cycle Sport (MCS) member, who is also on the Team GB cycling team, pushed on through the back end of the start loop in first place.

Together with American rider Kate Courtney, the pair pulled out a good gap on the chasing pair.

However, a crash for Richards on the rock garden gave Courtney the lead over the British rider on the first lap.

Richards regained her confidence and rhythm to cross the line in a hard earned second place.

Fellow MCS riders were also out in force at the weekend’s Midlands Mountain Bike Cross Country Series.

Ryan Milne took first place in the veterans race while Greg Fitzpatrick did well to finish in the same category.

There was also some good racing from Jayden Randell in the youth race.

William Moseley, Jack Bristow, Elliot Roberts, Tom Bristow, Lochie Roberts, Lucas Kent, Harriet Dale and Pippa Dale competed in the under 12s category.

Both Harriet and Pippa gained a podium place, with the latter awarded the trophy as regional under eight champion.

Also riding for MCS were Tom and Daisy Williams who took part in their first Go Ride race at Tewkesbury.

Tom came away with two golds.
