Malvern's home record ended by Ellesmere

MALVERN Town crashed back to earth on Wednesday night as Ellesmere Rangers ended their six-match winning streak at home with a 2-1 defeat.

Les Jones’ men were on a crest of a wave after racking up 19 goals in just three games, including a 9-1 victory over Dudley Town on Saturday.

But Ellesmere rose to the challenge and moved 2-0 up thanks to goals from Matty Ryan and Marco Adaggio.

Malvern hit back when James Lush fired home with 25 minutes left, but the visitors did enough to clinch a narrow victory.

Having not lost at home since November, Town would have been confident of increasing their run as they looked to secure back-to-back wins over Ellesmere.

And the hosts started brightly, with Lush just failing to get on the end of Lee Hooper’s cross before Louis Loader’s free kick was cleared off the line.

But the home fans were silenced on the 12th minute when Ryan slotted the ball after Town failed to clear a corner.

The goal came against the run of play, but Malvern refused to let it affect them as they went close again. Dave Reynolds sent the ball into the box, but the unmarked Aaron Richards failed to hit the target.

Malvern continued to press for an equaliser, but they could not find the finishing tough. And they received a further blow just before the break as Adaggio struck past Ian Hill to put Rangers 2-0 up.

It left Town with it all to do in the second half and their luck in front of goal did not appear to be changing. Reynolds shot was saved by Lee Davis before Lee Hooper hit the bar.

But Malvern did not give up and they got their rewarded on the 66th minute when Lush fired a shot in off the post.

Ellesmere refused to let their lead slip, though, and frustrations boiled over after a bad tackle on Reece King.

Reynolds again had a chance to level the scores late on, but the striker, who hit a hat trick against Dudley on Saturday, could not find the back of the net as Malvern slipped to defeat.
