MALVERN’s MP Harriet Baldwin has welcomed the Government’s announcement that European Union workers planning to settle in the UK would be able to stay without paying a fee.
The Government had come under fire for charging EU nationals who wanted to stay post-Brexit £65.
The settlement scheme will open when the Brexit process is completed.
People who have already applied to stay will have their fees refunded.
Harriett commented: “European workers are extremely valuable to our local economy doing vital jobs for national employers like the NHS, working in jobs as diverse as manufacturing and cyber security and even carrying out important tasks for our local farmers and food producers.
“I welcome this news that EU nationals who wish to settle in the UK will not be out of pocket by apply to remain here and I hope this news brings some reassurance both to workers and their employers.”
