WORCESTERSHIRE all-rounder Moeen Ali has been chosen to play in England’s squad for next Tuesday’s Twenty20 game against Sri Lanka.
But the 26-year-old has been dropped from the 14-man ODI squad, meaning he may be available for more County Championship games than originally expected.
Ali will definitely miss the county’s four-day match against Essex which starts on Sunday at New Road, but should be available for the opening two T20 blast fixtures against Durham on Friday and Lancashire the following day.
Despite the disappointment of not adding to his three ODI caps, the news will come as a boost to Worcestershire director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, who should be able to pick Ali for the championship games against Kent in Tunbridge Wells which starts on May 25 and the match against Surrey at the Kia Oval beginning on June 1.
