Pitt drafted in to search for talent

MALVERN Town have stepped up their search for talented youngsters in the area with the appointment of Carl Pitt as head of recruitment.

Pitt, who has previously managed the club’s youth team before going on to take charge of Malvern Rangers, will join manager Les Jones and assistant boss Kelvin Endacott on Town’s backroom staff this season.

His appointment comes after new owners Chris Pinder and Ted Grizzell set out their ambitious plans to create a youth structure at the West Midlands Regional League outfit as they look to build for the future.

And Jones told the Observer that Pitt would play an important role in capturing Malvern’s brightest young talent as well as adding to his current first team squad.

“One of Carl’s primary roles will be as head of recruitment,” Jones said. “It will be a tremendous help to have him on board because with having games twice a week getting to see local players is impossible for myself.

“Carl, Kelvin and I will now sat down and look at which departments of the team we need to strengthen. Carl will then check them out and if we decide we like them then he will try and recruit them.

“Next year we obviously want a bigger structure. We have currently got a first team, but we want a strong u18s, u16s and reserve team as well as a ladies side, so Carl will not only be looking at players for the first team, but also looking at potential players for the future, so he has got a vital role to play at the club.”

Jones said additions to the senior squad would also be welcome having lost Joe Endacott through injury, while centre back partner Aaron Richards has been suspended after seeing red in Malvern’s 1-0 West Midlands League Premier Division defeat to high flying Pegasus Juniors on Saturday.

His red card proved pivotal in a closely fought encounter as Ben Price struck moments later, which was enough to hand Pegasus victory.

The Town boss was proud of his side’s efforts and hoped it had given his players a boost in confidence ahead of tonight’s clash with Wednesfield at the Langland Stadium (Wednesday, 7.45pm).

“It was frustrating that we did not get at least a draw, but if we work as hard and perform as well as we did on Saturday, hopefully it will be enough to get a win tonight (Wednesday),” Jones added.
