Players must keep it up says Town boss

MANAGER Les Jones has urged his on-fire Malvern Town players to not take their foot off the gas when they take on Ellesmere Rangers at the Langland Stadium tonight (Wednesday, 7.45pm).

A hat-trick apiece from Dave Reynolds and Lee Hooper as well as a Louis Loader brace and a further goal from James Lush saw Malvern to a 9-1 victory over managerless Dudley Town.

The emphatic result on Saturday follows a 4-0 thumping of Smethwick Rangers and a 6-0 win over Ledbury Town in the Worcester Infirmary Minor Cup.

But Jones said his morale-boosted players must keep their feet on the ground as he sets his sights on a top ten finish in the West Midlands Regional League.

“All our forwards are scoring at the moment, so we are not relying on one player. which is really encouraging,” Jones said.

“We are winning games, our confidence is high and we are taking our chances so things are looking up for us.

“We knew we would be taking on an inexperienced Dudley team as they had lost a lot of players, but we just blitzed them.

“We were 5-0 up after 17 minutes as were scored after virtually every attack and the games was all but over.

“But we need to keep going and we will be looking for a similar result on Wednesday.

“Confidence is a tremendous thing in sport and you only have to look at Manchester United’s results this season to see how confidence can sap even the best of players, so we need to keep performing and picking up results.

“Ellesmere will be aware of how well we are playing at the moment and I am sure they will be fired up for it, so we have got to make sure we are not caught off guard.

“It was a close game when we played them at their place. I know they will be very hard working, but I am just hoping that we will have enough fire power to finish them off.”

Jones added: “We have won the last six league games at home, so I suppose Langland has become a bit of a fortress for us. But we just need to keep the roll going.

“We have got a target of getting in that top ten and we have to keep winning to achieve that.”
