Reynolds stars as Town thrash Bartley

STRIKER Dave Reynolds bagged a superb late hat-trick as Malvern Town thrashed West Midlands Regional League’s whipping boys Bartley Green 6-0 at the Langland Stadium on Saturday.

Top scorer Lee Hooper struck twice, while Louis Loader also contributed to the rout as Malvern ended their six match losing streak in style.

It was the visitors, though, who made the brighter start, but defensive abilities of new recruits Lee Barmby and Matt Cole kept their attack at bay.

Town, meanwhile, took their chances when they came in the early stages as Lee Hooper latched on to Reynolds cross to score. That lead was almost moments later when Hooper and Reynolds combined once again, but this time the latter could only fire wide.

Malvern continued to pepper Bartley’s goal, with Loader and Joe Leighton going before Hooper made it 2-0 just before the break.

The away side also came in at half time with only 10 men as Scott MacKellar received a second yellow card for a two footed challenge.

With a man advantage, Town took complete control of the contest and they quickly added to their lead when Loader fired home after good work from Harry Wickett and Reynolds.

The goal-scorer had numerous chances to find the back of the net before Reynolds became the star of the show. With ten minutes remaining, the Malvern striker opened his account when he connected to Andre Rodrigues unselfish cross to score before weaving his way into the box to another, which put Town 5-0 in front.

But he saved the best until added time as Reynolds completely his hat-trick with a superb bicycle kick.
