RUGBY: Ledbury going 'all out' for promotion after cup final heartache

LEDBURY Rugby Club’s senior coach Elliot Bee has urged his team to put the disappointment of their Midlands Vase final defeat behind them by gaining promotion.

Ledbury’s hopes of winning the Senior Vase Midlands trophy and edging closer to a grand final spot at Twickenham were crushed on Saturday as they fell to a 61-33 defeat against Oundle.

It was a game which did not disappoint with 94 points scored in total but the home side proved too good for a spirited Ledbury side.

But Bee has told the Observer the club must make most of the positives gained from the impressive cup run and use it to help secure promotion from Midlands 3 West (South).

Ledbury are currently in fourth place in the division knowing a top two finish will move them into Midlands 2 West (South) – the same league as local rivals Malvern.

And with three league games to go starting with an away match against Old Wheatleyans on Saturday, Bee said the club will be going all out to land promotion.

“It was obviously disappointing to lose the final but we didn’t give up without a fight,” he said.

“It did seem their level of rugby was one above what we used to but we definitely stood up to the challenge and gave a good account of ourselves.

“There were areas we showed real strength and could have done a lot of damage if we applied it more.

“I think the boys can take a lot of heart from that performance and take that to our final three league games.

“This season we have been very impressive and seen rugby that we have not seen before from this club. If we keep going with that then we can do a real job in the last three games.

“We are going to get as many points as we can and the rest will take care of itself.”
