MALVERN made it three wins in a row when they crushed basement side Bedworth 55-7 in the Midlands Two West (South) on Saturday.

The Warwickshire side shocked the Spring Lane crowd when they took an early lead after winning a scrum and cutting through a sleepy Malvern defence to score a converted try.

However, this woke the hosts up and they responded by winning a scrum of their own. George Withers made a break and fed Laurie Essenhigh to run in for a try and Ben King’s conversion levelled the scores.

Malvern began to dominate as they drove a full 30 metres with a controlled maul, but Essenhigh was adjudged offside and the resultant penalty gave the visitors some breathing space.

Malvern soon won a penalty of their own, though, which Adam Dixon put into the corner for a five-metre lineout. The catch and drive was applied and Richard Hobbs was on hand to score.

The hooker was again in the thick of the action as he broke through the defence and unselfishly offloaded the ball for another try. King again converted.

Tom Hale left the field with a rib injury following a collision with a goal post whilst halting a rare Bedworth attack and was replaced by Conor Giggle.

Down at the other end of the field, another driving scrum to the line saw Essenhigh pick up and nip through to score and a few minutes later the diminutive scrum-half broke through again and fed the ball to George Roberts, who powered in from the wing to leave the hosts 29-7 ahead at half-time.

With the bonus point won, Malvern looked comfortable and continued to dominate after the interval as a controlled drive saw Will Gough touch down, with King converting.

Shortly after, Roberts charged up the wing and fed the ball to Niall Potter-Farrant, who in turn flipped it to King to go over and score.

King then scored another try which he converted himself, but Bedworth refused to give up as their winger cut his way past some tacklers, only to be halted by Roberts.

In the last play of the game, Malvern won the ball on halfway and Essenhigh burst though to round off the try fest and giving King an easy conversion.

Malvern host Pinley this Saturday at 3pm.
