MALVERN’s Harriet Harnden earned an impressive silver medal in the women’s junior race at the UEC Mountain Bike European Championships in Austria.
The 17-year-old produced a fine ride to finish second only to home favourite Laura Stigger, who won by more than two minutes, with Harnden well clear of the Czech Republic’s Tereza Saskova in third.
It continued an impressive season for Harnden, who finished fourth in the women’s under-23 race at the cyclo-cross world championships earlier this year while still only 16.
Harnden’s performance came in the first of four races on Sunday.
