Town go unbeaten in ten

MALVERN Town stretched their unbeaten run to ten games with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Sporting Community on Saturday.

A solitary second half effort from Chris Parker ensured Les Jones’ side secured their fourth win on the spin and drew level on points with fifth placed Shawbury United.

Town are now just two points behind fourth placed Ellesmere Rangers and host mid-table Pegasus Juniors in their penultimate game before travelling to third placed Gornal Athletic on the final weekend of the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division season.

The clash at Hazel Lane started in difficult conditions, with a harsh ground and strong winds cutting short the quality on show.

It was Malvern who had the only chance of the first period when the well placed Aaron Richards opted to try and cross for Dave Reynolds in the box, when a shot looked on for the defender.

Chris Weaver kept Town in the game at the start of the second half when a series of fine saves thwarted the Wolverhampton attack before Parker came up trumps for the visitors.

The substitute judged the wind to perfection and curled his corner straight into the net to put Malvern well on their way to another valuable three points.

With time running out, Jones’ men could have extended their lead when Reynolds marginally failed to meet Parker’s cross and Matthew Turner fired over, however it did not matter as Malvern dug in for the maximum return.
