Town leave it late to see off Rangers

PERSISTENCE paid off for Malvern Town as they finally broke through Black Country Rangers’ defences to claim a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

It looked like it was going to be a frustrating afternoon for Les Jones’ men as a host of missed chances and the upright kept Rangers in the game.

But Town got their reward on the hour mark when Reece King headed home before skipper Joe Endacott struck to seal all three points.

The win also extends Malvern’s unbeaten run to four as they look to finish their West Midlands Regional League campaign on a high, but they had Charles Weaver to thank for not falling behind against Rangers in the early stages.

The keeper brilliantly pushed Leigh Pardoe’s shot on to the bar after the hosts caught Malvern’s defence napping with a short corner.

Matthew Turner forced Luke Tilt into an early save, but it was Rangers who were on top in the opening exchanges as Weaver produced a smart stop to deny Nicholas Turton.

As the half wore on, though, Town began to get more of the ball and they came the closest to scoring. King teed up the ball for Dave Reynolds, but his effort cannoned off the post.

And the visitors’ frustrations were growing as Reynolds twice went wide either side of the interval to keep the match on level terms.

But Malvern finally got what they were looking for in the second period when King headed in Reynolds’ corner before Town put themselves in firm control.

A Reynolds delivery caused problems once again as Rangers failed to clear and Endacott was on hand to bag Malvern’s second on the 68th minute.

This proved to be enough for Town as Endacott saved a shot on the line before Weaver produced another fine save late on.
