Town suffer second straight loss

MALVERN Town suffered their second straight league defeat at the HDanywhere Community Stadium as Sporting Khalsa ran out 3-1 winners on Saturday.

Les Jones’ side, which lost 3-2 at home to Bewdley in mid-week, kept their in form opponents on level terms at half time after Dave Herbert cancelled out Mensah Kinch’s goal.

But Khalsa, who were on a run of five successive victories going into the contest, demonstrated their quality in the second half as Bradley Lawley put his side back in front before Nicky Campbell scored late on.

The visitors almost got off to the perfect start as Kinch’s effort in the opening minute hit the angle between crossbar and the back post.

This proved to be a wake up call for Malvern as they started to take the game to their opponents. But they could not find the finishing touch as Matt Turner missed a great chance to take the lead after Dave Reynolds threaded the ball through.

Khalsa keeper James Pemberton was also proving a tough nut to crack until he had to be replaced after dislocating his finger when saving Reece King’s shot.

Malvern still failed to break the deadlock and they were made to pay for their missed chances on the 39th minute. A quick free kick caught Town’s defence napping and Kinch fired home.

But the lead lasted only three minutes as Herbert head home Turner’s cross to level the scores just before the interval.

As the second half wore on, though, Khalsa started to control possession and they edge ahead with a goal from Lawley on the 62nd minute.

Malvern searched for an equaliser, but as they pressed Khalsa added a third with five minutes left when Campbell put the ball passed Niall Hacking.
