Victory is a timely boost - Reynolds

HAT-TRICK hero Dave Reynolds says Malvern Town’s 6-0 victory over Bartley Green has given the squad a much-needed confidence boost.

Town were on a run of six successive defeats before thrashing Bartley at Langland Stadium on Saturday, which saw Les Jones’ side move up several places in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division table.

Reynolds, who scored three goals in the last ten minutes, including a memorable bicycle kick to complete his hat-trick, believes the result could be a turning point in their season.

“It is always good to get on the scoresheet and get three points as well,” he said.

“I think everyone put in a great performance and it is nice to get a result for the fans.

“We have all been lacking a bit recently and I think confidence has been low, but after the game on Saturday everyone was absolutely over the moon.

“To be fair we have been through a bit of a hard patch, but we have still stuck together as a team, so the spirit has always been there.

“However, that result has shown to everyone that we can do it when we put our minds to it, so hopefully we can kick on from here and continue to go from strength to strength.”

And the 25-year-old said the players know they need to back it up with another victory as Malvern take on Wolverhampton Sporting Community at the Langland Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

“The win was a massive boost for us, but we have got to now take it into the next game and try and get another three points,” Reynolds added.

“I think the last performance shows that if we do turn up and perform we can roll teams over and score goals.

“But the next game is probably even bigger for us now.

“We can’t just rest on our laurels and say ‘yes we have won 6-0’ as we need to say ‘we can do better in the next game’.

“We have played them already this season and we know they are a team we can be beat, so there is no reason why we can’t score a few more goals as well.”
