YOUNG Worcestershire wicket-keeper batsman Alex Milton made 40 and 22 not out when skippering Cardiff MCCU in the three-day match with Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium.

Milton, who has taken over as captain this season, came in at 23-2 on the opening day and shared in a third-wicket stand of 72 with Joseph Ludlow.

He was third out at 95, having hit six fours in his 73-ball knock, caught behind off Marchant de Lange, as the Students were finally bowled out for 249.

Milton also hit 28 not out in Cardiff MCCU’s second innings but play was washed out on the final day.

Milton signed his first professional contract with Worcestershire last autumn after showing good form in the Seconds.

He will be on a university scholarship which the County are helping to finance this summer as he completes his studies.

But the 21-year-old will then join up with the staff at New Road full-time for the 2019 campaign.

Milton also enjoyed a record-breaking 2017 with Cardiff CC, scoring more than 1,000 runs.
