Lockdown leads to changes to registration arrangements across Worcestershire

Malvern Editorial 17th Jan, 2021   0

THE latest national lockdown has changed how registration services in Worcestershire continue to operate.

Wedding and civil partnership ceremonies can now only take place under exceptional circumstances in a bid to reduce Covid-19 transmission.

The number of guests permitted at the exceptional ceremonies has been reduced to six people to further attempt to combat high infection rates.

That group of six does not include anyone working but does include the couple getting married, their friends and family.

County Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for communities, said:

“Further restrictions have been put in place to combat the high Covid-19 infection rates we are experiencing across the county, to protect the NHS and save lives.

“I understand many couples planning to get married will be disappointed with this news but I would call on everyone to be patient.

“We need to dig deep to protect our communities and take action against coronavirus.

“In exceptional circumstances our Registration Services team will continue to conduct ceremonies. I am pleased that we are still able to do this safely.”

Death registration continues to take place over the telephone.

Birth registration has been suspended, as common practice in the new year.
