WORCESTERSHIRE  County Council has been shortlisted for an EDIE Net Zero Award.

The EDIE Net Zero Awards recognise and reward individuals and organisations that are leading the transition towards a net zero carbon economy.

The County Council has been shortlisted in the ‘Energy Efficiency Project of the Year’ category.

The award submission was based on the business net zero support programmes, with a focus on energy efficiency.

Councillor Richard Morris, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for the environment, said: “To be shortlisted on a national scale for our net zero support programmes is a testament to the dedication of all involved.

“It demonstrates our commitment to working towards net zero and driving positive environmental change in the county.”

Using European and UK Government funding, the County Council has been running business support programmes, providing free advice and grants for energy efficiency, renewable energy and developing and commercialising new low carbon products and services.

To date, advice has been given to over 1200 Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), who have seen major reductions in carbon emissions and an increase in renewable energy capacity, with an average energy saving of 28 per cent.

Business net zero events have been organised and a free decarbonisation portal has been established, with nearly 80 organisations using the portal to track their carbon emissions and plan reductions.

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony on 15 November.
